GLOSSARY

Hot Water Bottles
Receptacle designed to be filled with hot water and used to emit warmth for the purpose of keeping warm. Can be manufactured in ceramic, glass, rubber or PVC.

Hot Water Bottle Stopper
Device to securely plug the hot water to prevent leakage and spillage. Generally situated at the top, on ceramic and glass hot water bottles can found on the side.

Rubber Hot Water Bottles
Latex rubber chiefly from the rubber tree (Hevea Brasiliensis) that is elastic and cream to dark brown in its natural state. Dyed and shaped to form a 2 litre receptacle to contain hot water, size may vary for different use.

PVC Hot Water Bottles
Thermoplastic manufactured from polymer resins that are flexible and elastic to be shaped into a hot water bottle. Can be dyed, shaped, ridged to form various sizes.

Hottie
Another name for a hot water bottle, also more commonly used term to describe grain filled pads that are heated in a microwave.

Microwavable Hot Water Bottles
Grain or seed filled bags either placed inside a woven shaped receptacle or filled directly into a shaped woven material e.g. soft toy, wraps. Heated by placing grain filled bag inside a microwave for the time and power instructed, will emit heat for approximately two hours.

Fleece Covered Hot Water Bottles
Fleece material generally manufactured in polyester fibers that are cut and shaped to fit a rubber or PVC hot water bottles. Can be multi-coloured or contain a motif attached. Soft to the touch and used as an insulator.

Knitted Hot Water Bottle Covers
Factory machine or hand knitted cotton, wool or nylon mix material in plain or coloured design and knitted using a pattern to the shape of a rubber or PVC hot water bottles.

Faux Fur Hot Water Bottle Covers
Also called fun fur, material usually nylon designed to look and feel like animal fur. Cloth cut and sewn to shape of hot water bottle.

Padded Hot Water Bottle Covers
Material usually cotton filled between two layers with synthetic insulating foam to retain heat longer. Cut and shaped to hot water bottle style.

Heat Packs
Filled pack in various shapes and sizes designed to warm up the body by placing in direct contact. Can be used for sports injury and prevent swelling.

Soft Toy Warmer
Toy shaped material filled with grain used in a microwave to heat up grain and provide warmth. Made in toy or character shape for children to stay warm or cuddle up to.

Click Heat Pads
Pad containing Sodium acetate with an activator disk. Once the disk is pressed molecules revert to solid state and increase in temperature. Contained within a plastic pouch or moulded to body shape to place directly where required.

Safety Stand
Device to hot a rubber or PVC hot water bottle whilst filling with hot water and help avoid spilling or burns.
