Recycling A Hot Water Bottle

Both rubber and PVC hot water bottles are recyclable but have to be treated differently according to the different types. All parts including the hot water bottle cover can be recycled, the main ways to recycle are as follows:

Recycling PVC Hot Water Bottle
PVC are treated as plastic that can be recycled. The UK uses 275,000 tons of plastic each year with about 40kg per family thrown away each year. By taking your old hot water bottle to the recycle depot it can be recycled and end up as a new fleece jacket! Plastic has so many uses that it is growing in volume use by 4% each year with more now manufactured to be fully recyclable. All our PVC hot water bottles can be safely recycled and help reduce landfills. Special machinery has been developed that can chew up PVC into granules that can then be reheated to produce other products, a typical example would be plumbing fittings such as guttering and drainpipes. This has the dual advantage of not only recycling a locally manufactured product but also reducing air miles and avoiding import of plumbing fittings from China.

Recycling Eco Biodegradable PVC products
The latest development is Eco friendly renewable sugar cane to make a hot water bottle free of plasticisers. These cannot be put in with plastics, they are fully compostable and will break down quickly either in with normal household waste or some local authorities now allow bio plastics in with green waste. Check with your local council for the latest update on recycling facilities for your area on bio plastics. Production of the Eco friendly hot water bottles is in cooperation with the Finneck Foundation providing a safe work for people with disabilities and meeting the demands for greener products.

Recycling rubber hot water bottles
Rubber hot water bottle are also just as easy to recycle as PVC. First remove the brass screw thread that holds the hot water bottle stopper or plug in place, this can be placed into the metal recycling container. Next place the rubber hot water bottle into the rubber recycling bin at the nearest recycling centre. After treatment these are reused to make children play mats, plumbing fittings, tyres and all sorts of safety rubber flooring. Rubber is a valuable commodity that is getting more and more expensive to produce. By recycling your old rubber hot water bottle you not only help reduce landfills but save costs on the supply of latex imported into the UK.

Recycling hot water bottle covers
Most hot water bottle covers are either made of fleece, wool, padded or cotton mix. With so many textile banks now sited in major shopping centres it makes recycling hot water bottle covers very easy. The local recycling depot will also have a special textile skip or bank to put your old hot water bottle cover into. It goes without saying to always take the hot water bottle out first to dispose in the correct recycling container.

Use of packaging in posting
Excessive use of packing can be harmful to the environment and builds up the need for more landfill sites. In an effort to reduce our packaging they are dispatched with minimum packaging and enough to arrive safely without damage to the product inside. Larger orders are shipped using recycled cardboard, paper sealing tape and packed with shredded cardboard to avoid the use of plastic and ensure all packaging can be fully and easily recycled. We are also changing gift packing by removing all plastic and replacing with recyclable cardboard. Thankfully a hot water bottle whether rubber, PVC or Eco biodegradable will not suffer breakage in transit and very safe to ship without the need for excessive packaging. All packaging, labels and information supplied will be fully recyclable but please bear in mind that some safety information and microwavable instructions should be retained for future reference.
